Simone's Letters by Helena Pielichaty book cover

What's it all about?

A girl called Simone Wibberley, her friends, family and school. The book is set out as a series of letters, first between Simone and Jem Cakebread, the director of a theatre company and then between Simone and her best friend Chloe Shepherd. It is illustrated throughout with drawings by Sue Heap.

'Wickedly perceptive about school life, the 10 year old female psyche and parental separation, this is a laugh-out-loud, feel good book written with a vivacious wit.'
Michael Thorn, TES Primary

'This would be a good choice for a class read aloud.'
Junior Education

'I got Simone's Letters for Christmas and thought it was excellent. Simone was really funny. I have read lots of books written in letters but this one is my favourite. I also like the illustrations.'
Connie Primmer, age 11

Where did the idea come from?

I was still at Besthorpe when we took the school to see a production of Rumpelstiltskin. It was brilliant but being a typical teacher I ruined it all by making everyone write about it afterwards. We posted the letters to the theatre company but they never wrote back. As a teacher I thought that was rude but as a writer it gave me this great idea for a story...
